Print & Digital working in Cohesion //
My essay concluded by saying that digital and print media have to work together as apposed to one being more important or effective than the other.
From this, my practical work will take this path. I aim to produce a publication of some sort that combines both the advantages of digital media and the personal, bespoke feel of print media.
Interactive Advertising //
Glacial.
Glacial produced an extremely clever advert that can be soaked in cold water and wrapped around your bottle of beer to keep it cooler for longer. The stock had salt crystals within to reduce the freezing temperature of the water.
Utec.
UTEC university produced a billboard in Lima, Peru that famously has some of the lowest recordings of precipitation in the world but has a very humid climate. The billboard turns humidity in the air into drinking water for locals.
Kontor Records.
Kontor wanted to distribute their latest vinyl record however with a number of limitations, they could not simply send the actual vinyl out as not many people will be able to play it. They came up with a paper turntable and vinyl that could be played with an iPhone.
Ford & VW.
Ford and Volks Wagon produced a series of print adverts that interact with an iPhone.
This have given me the idea to produce or redesign an existing publication such as Vice and make it interactive. Vice has a huge online status with thousands of youtube videos and blogs. They also produce a magazine. My idea is to combine the two by making the images interactive using an iphone. the image will direct your phone to the relevant youtube video. This will result in a personal publication that can be read and then supported with a video.
